GPC interns visit Ecuador: July 1st through July 31st.

Here's a photo summary of their time here.                Alan's Blog

Whale Video     Video at 13000 feet above sea level!

Upon arriving from the airport, they went to buy hamburgers, and came out with EIGHT bottles of water! Time to brush up on the Spanish!

They stayed at our home in El-Tingo which may look small, but has three guest rooms!

One of the objectives was to help with the cooking.

John became the expert in frying bananas and eggs.

Lisa did very well in baking a chocolate cake, at a high altitude and even using saucepans since we didn't have a baking tin.

We ate breakfast and dinner at home, but for lunch we usually ate out. One surprise was putting popcorn in your soup!

Their first Saturday they did a work project at the local church of leveling some ground to improve the water drainage, and learned that there's less oxygen at 8500 ft above sea level.

We took a trip up north to a water-filled volcanic crater and saw the beautiful work of God's creation.

Here we're at the camp digging to check the water connections.

Doing VBS (in English) at a local Christian school turned out to be a rewarding challenge

John did sports.

Kristy taught the Bible lesson.

Lisa worked hard teaching new songs. (Video)

And Nick led the crafts.

We had devotions every morning (and studied the Book of 1 John),

and learned some Spanish songs which we later sang in a couple of church services.

The third week we made a trip to the jungle. Our first stop was baņos where the youth decided to prove their nerves doing some white-water rafting and later jumping off a bridge. (Video)

Further down the road, at Shell, we did some work for an orphanage.

We prepared some crafts the night before,

and Faby used them to help some of the kids begin to talk.

One job was to install a gas water heater for the showers,

and the other was to enclose the second floor in plastic.

The fourth week we drove six hours to the Pacific ocean. The highlight of the time was taking a tour to see the whales. (Video) Not the smoothest ride to say the least! Some friends of ours hosted us at their local hotel. Good to see them after so many years!

During the final days here, the team had time to meet new people and participate in another VBS, this time all in Spanish.

Here's a game of UNO with some friends from church.

And VBS at a Christian camp.

Thanks for coming!
